Your report:
You will be asked to pick up your report card, about 1 week later from the screening center or Van. This will consist of a small card with your name, ID, Blood sugar, blood pressure & "BI-RADS" mammogram result. This "Breast Imaging Reporting And Data System (BI-RADS)" has been created by the American College of Radiology for Breast Reporting, with a score from 0 to 6
0 : Incomplete examination, further assessment necessary
1 : No problem seen
2 : Benign condition (not cancer)
3 : Probably Benign : 6 months follow up is recommended
4 : Suspicious Findings : You will be recalled to the assessment clinic to be evaluated, and downgraded to BIRADS 3 or upgraded to BIRADS 5.
5 : Malignant findings : Recall to assessment clinic & oncologist / surgeon appointment. Five in every thousand women who attend for breast screening will be diagnosed with breast cancer. If your tests show that you have BIRADS 5; you will be referred to a consultant surgeon or a cancer specialist (a medical oncologist) at a cancer treatment hospital.
6 : Known Biopsy Proven Malignancy : Should be for follow up not screening mammogram
